Cuba, the Media, and the Challenge of Impartiality, by Salim Lamrani

In this concise and detailed work, Salim Lamrani addresses questions of media concentration and corporate bias by examining a perennially controversial topic: Cuba. Lamrani argues that the tiny island nation is forced to contend not only with economic isolation and a U.S. blockade, but with misleading or downright hostile media coverage. He takes as his case study El País, the most widely distributed Spanish daily. El País (a property of Grupo Prisa, the largest Spanish media conglomerate), has editions aimed at Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., making it is a global opinion leader. Lamrani wades through a swamp of reporting and uses the paper as an example of how media conglomerates distort and misrepresent life in Cuba and the activities of its government. By focusing on eight key areas, including human development, internal opposition, and migration, Lamrani shows how the media systematically shapes our understanding of Cuban reality. This book, with a preface by Eduardo Galeano, provides an alternative view, combining a scholar’s eye for complexity with a journalist’s hunger for the facts.

Good reading for those that want to know how the communists try to vindicate what is unvindicateable.
By Carlos Pulido
When an ideology is at the end of the rope because it can no longer hide its trail of horror, it resorts back to what it has always used; to confuse by telling half truths which is to purposely mislead. (an insult to those who know how to read between the lines) The author bases himself on the "Change of El Pais" in regards to Che Guevara and how the two articles from the same paper (at different times) are day and night apart. Very true. He himself states the tendency or position of the newspaper at its early life as "center left" ... It only makes sense then that its article on" killer Che Guevara" would be a benign one. The left has defended and stuck to its views and its justifications throughout history, even amidst its most gruesome moments. The Cuban revolution that this book ultimately defends is a murderous one, Cuba is ruled by thugs that are hungry for both power and money. They control everything and everyone in Cuba. The Cuban revolution is a revolution that goes against all humanity in every single aspect. The Cuban revolution is looking for servants such as Salim Lamrani and anyone else who can promote or perpetuate them in any way shape or form, be it political or social by either cover ups or falseness. Those that serve as utile, will always have a place with the dictators empire, until they are found to be no longer useful, or possibly until they realize what the implications of their complicity have caused on human lives.
