Ya tengo varios libros de Michio Kaku, lo veo en Discovery Channel, en History Channel, Natgeo, jaaa, soy su fan.
Este libro no defrauda, te va cautivando desde el inicio y se basa en el conocimiento actual que tenemos de las 4 fuerzas fundamentales.

Brilliant!

Fahnestock's book focuses on how writers achieve effects from their choices of words, phrases, and sentence patterns. I find it very easy to read, but it isn't a manual that teaches people how to write so much as a manual that gives insight into how one might analyze small portions of text to understand written style better: it is amply illustrated by political speeches, news articles, and other texts so that every point is explained and at least one exemplar analyzed to show how seemingly small changes in style can have important changes in meaning and persuasive effect on an audience. In short, it is a step towards learning how to analyze in detail how persuasion is accomplished through language, which would help you write, but it isn't a manual for writing.

People who teach writing or edit would benefit from studying this book. If you are thinking of an MA or PhD in any communication field (written or oral or combined), this book is an excellent introduction by an outstanding professor. People who teach any subject and ask students to analyze language related to that subject would probably also benefit from it. And anyone who is simply interested in language and persuasion will find this a lucid guide to understanding how stylistic choices impact meaning/audience reception. It will definitely give you a different perspective on the daily communications that come your way.

Excellent discussion of how rhetorical use of stylistic choices can improve and enhance the persuasive use of language

This is a scholarly, interdisciplinary book that draws on classical rhetoric, modern rhetoric, linguistics, language analysis, etymology, and argumentation theory to methodically explore how stylistic choices can improve and enhance the persuasive use of language in both spoken and written formats.

The author divides the book into four parts that discuss and analyze the persuasive effects of stylistic choices in terms of: (1) word choice; (2) sentences; (3) the different interactions between or among the speaker/writer, the audience, other speaker(s)/writers(s), and the occasion and situation in which the speaker/writer is communicating; and (4) passage construction. The author's discussion, analysis, arguments, and conclusions are supported and illustrated by numerous examples of spoken and written language from ancient to modern times, excerpts and quotes from various articles and books about classical and modern rhetoric, thoughtful reasoning, astute observations and insights, and citations to numerous publications (which are listed in an extensive References section at the end of the book).

This book is very methodical and erudite, and requires a reader to invest time and careful attention to follow the author's discussion, analysis, arguments, and conclusions. The author's discussion, analysis, arguments, and conclusions are insightful, informative, thought-provoking, and generally persuasive. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in: (1) a scholarly approach to understanding and appreciating the persuasive use of stylistic choices in written and spoken language; (2) an interdisciplinary approach to examining various persuasive techniques in spoken and written language; or (3) how stylistic choices in written and spoken language can contribute to, and enhance, substantive arguments. Any reader not having some knowledge about, or experience with, classical or modern rhetoric, language analysis, linquistics, or argumentation theory probably will find the book to be too advanced and technical.

A book that comphrehensively tracks linguistics from the vantage of the rhetorical arts of persuasion

A contemporary rhetorical lens on language requires many vantages, from the ancient study of persuasive situations to the history of English, the lexicon, sentence grammar, prosody, and stylistics. There are volumes of books written on each of these subjects, but these books are fragmented across disciplines, argots, and typically siloed within particular granularities of language without the grains adding cumulatively to the holistic effects of persuasion. This book addresses these gaps and addresses them brilliantly. It's a one-stop volume for students of language who want to examine every layer from words to discourses for persuasive saliency. What is particularly compelling about the book is that there are no phony examples. Every concept is carefully illustrated from real life examples the author has culled with painstaking care. Fahnestock's synthetic vision is striking and original but the book is also user-friendly, progresses linearly and cumulatively and could serve as a textbook in an advanced undergraduate or graduate course on language theory pertaining to rhetoric and persuasion.

The best text available for airline economics -- Period.

Superb! This text clearly explains the complex economic issues surrounding airlines today, including social and political perspectives. By far the best available resource for potential (or current) airline managers to help understand the driving forces in today's global airline industry. Certainly acceptable for any level of higher academic study, the text looks at economic paradigms driving the industry and provides a fresh perspective of the perils facing airilnes in the 21st century.

Academically Rigorous, Yet Comprehensible

This is the best introduction to the fundamentals of airline economics that I have ever read. Doganis, an analyst and teacher these days, is able to take all his years in industry (including a stint as CEO of Olympic Airways of Greece) and distill it into a useful text full of real world examples. The third edition is updated to include new developments like Internet ticketing, and was written post-9/11, so that sections dealing with issues such as security are up to date.

The book has complete sections on airline, aircraft, and route planning and forecasting, and related subjects such as yield management, marketing, and charter operations. Of particular note is the chapter on pricing policies and fare structures; it is clear that Doganis completely understands the significance of the low cost carriers and the future of yields throughout the different regions of the world.

I always enjoy reading Doganis, and vastly prefer this updated version of "Flying Off Course" to the pre-9/11 "The Airline Business in the 21st Century" (although I do recommend that book as well.) This is a great book, and should be read and understood by airline managers everywhere. My only caution is that though it is not the most mathematically exhaustive book on the subject, casual readers may not enjoy the book inasmuch as it is quite weighty and the chapter on forecasting demand is fairly mathematically rigorous.

Life Changing Book

Anyone who is interested in improving their skills at picking the right team mate for any kind of relationship, whether business or personal, should read this book! The knowledge in this book is so empowering & applicable & life changing!

My viewpoint about relationships changed just by reading the Introduction! The knowledge in this book was so stabilizing for me & how I'm looking at relationships now!

The exercises in the book are so fun & therapeutic! I know that I'll take some of these exercises into my future as useful tools for any relationship that I may consider having, any relationship I already have that needs a look at & any relationship I hope to have, whether it be personal or business.

In doing a couple of the exercises, I was able to rid myself of the left over feelings of failure, from a most recent relationship that I had & that truly attempted to destroy my life & me along with it. Thanks to the knowledge & exercises in this book, I know that I will always pick empowering lasting relationships, from now on!

Great self-help book!

This is book is very helpful in understanding how to find the right match. A relationship is based on trust, honesty and open communication. Daphna describes in details how to spot red flags on your new relationship before you get into a toxic relationship that will hurt you and lower your confidence as an individual.Never feel that you have to compromise your standards because you feel lonely. When one does that he/she will lose self respect and security.Probation time where you find out who really is your prospect man or woman. The world is full of people and scarcity is not an issue in finding your match. Many positive, encouraging tips and exercises to learn how to achieve a successfull and balance relationship.

This is the right book for those that want to have a relationship that will last into the future and get better every year. Yes, it's possible! There is much hard-won truth here and those that have not yet found Mr./Ms. Right will be well served with getting this wisdom. It is written in an easy-to-read style and include many real life examples. I am in my 60s and wanted to check this book out for my unmarried daughter and after having read it, will gift it to her with my affection. There's no reason that she should have to suffer through any kind of unhappy relationships, not with this outstanding "training" on the subject that is imparted here by the author. This really gets my highest praise.

An agreeable and relevant study into the nature of leadership

In an age and global business climate of increasing diversity, plurality, and complexity Passion and Purpose, written in a lucid and accessible style, offers a timely study into the activities and pursuits of young business leaders. The testimonial stories are refreshingly honest and transparent as emerging leaders, involved in a variety of different fields and work environments, candidly discuss their career goals and noble aspirations and also the inevitable obstacles and setbacks they have encountered along the way. These reflections yield valuable insights into the nature of risk, failure, and consequential decision making, along with the opportunities for the professional and personal growth that can result through tackling difficult problems and engaging with pressing business challenges head on. Most encouraging to me is that this group of MBAs seems to intuitively understand that what the global business culture of the future needs is principled servant leadership that rises above the pettiness of self-seeking narrow ambition and strives to bring out the best qualities in all whom they influence - Leadership that elevates the needs of our society as a whole. Examples of virtuous, sacrificial leadership cannot be shared often enough. Through undertaking this project John Coleman, Daniel Gulati, and W. Oliver Segovia have done the business world a most welcome service. I heartily recommend Passion and Purpose.

Somewhat interesting, but formulaic

This book isn't bad, it's just not particularly good either, as it gets very formulaic. Each chapter is a series of stories from the personal lives of Harvard MBAs, with each chapter revolving around a given topic. The chapter ends with an interview from an expert on the subject. The interviews with experts are much more interesting than the stories from MBA students. The stories read like admissions essays; basically... I worked for an investment bank, made a ton of money, started a non-profit to try to do something meaningful, and now a Harvard MBA has/will help me do that. This is all well and good, but it doesn't serve to inspire the reader because the stories are not representative of a generation, rather a select few. The same content may have made an interesting blog or HBR article, but it doesn't work as a 200 page book.

Fantastic book full of inspiring and insightful stories

It's an interesting proposition - take a bunch of business students who've done some really interesting things with their lives, and ask them to explain what motivates them, what they hope to achieve, and what they've learned as they've gone through the process. That, fundamentally, is what Passion & Purpose is about.

The broad section outlines work well (globalisation, sustainability, technology, diversity, learning, convergence) as beacons for the stories to be organised around. There are some truly uplifting stories in here - from reforming the Met to building a not-for-profit in Kenya. For insight into what's driving the next generation of young business folks - and insight into folks using business to improve the lives of people all around the world - Passion & Purpose is a great read.

A sympathetic romantic portrayal of the life and thought of Nietzsche

In his interesting and informative introduction to Zweig's biography of Nietzsche the translator Will Stone discusses Zweig's work as biographer, his concern about his great popularity not being quite justified, his relation to the great writers whose biographies he wrote, his romantic portrait of Nietzsche. Stone's description of the book is, in my judgment,accurate. It is a wonderful piece of work, portraying Nietzsche as courageous heroic solitary truth- seeker, the man who dared everything to do deeper in discovery of the truth. The contrast is made with calm, balanced Goethe , with other writers even philosophers Kant to Schopenhauer who Zweig portrays as stolidly married to their own philosophical systems and views. Against them Nietzsche is portrayed as perpetual seeker, one willing and ready to overthrow his own categories of thought. Zweig's description of Nietzsche's fifteen years of lonely wandering as a writer, his portrayal of his desperate need for response when receiving none even from his closest friends, his deep loneliness is a moving one. There is a chapter in which Nietzsche's experience of Music is described from the time that it was the greatest excitement and source of wild enthusiasm to the time when it was the only means for him to attain a bit of what he always lacked, serenity. Zweig's work does not really go into Nietzsche's ideas, the eternal return, the superman, the going beyond good and evil. It instead champions him as the great adventurer, the hero of original thought whose suffering was essential to the whole enterprise.

No dry academic writing here – just a great introduction to Nietzsche himself!

I have never taken a philosophy class nor have I ever read anything by Nietzsche. I was fortunate to run across this book which I think is a GREAT personal introduction to Nietzsche – not necessarily an introduction to his philosophical writings, but an introduction to the man himself. I am now very interested in finding out what Nietzsche had to say and am really looking forward to reading his philosophical works!

I'm always skeptical about "romantic" treatments of subjects. however, I have to say that this biography of Nietzsche brought alive to me much of the struggle that he endured the last 20 years of his life. An uplifting expirence in personal growth

Enlightenment Guaranteed is a simple and great book that will change the way you perceive your life. This book discusses what zen is and how to achieve it with many quotes and teachings from Dharma teachers. Understanding the four noble truths and the Eightfold Path in depth was helpful to me. I like how the Eightfold Path is explained and how the author discusses their own personal struggles and examples with a few of them. Applying the information in this book to your everyday life will bring you inner peace and ultimately relieve stress and make you a happier person. This book was an uplifting experience for me, and helped me let go of a lot of stress from personal problems and become more zen.

A chapter to focus on which I felt was the most helpful was chapter six: Meditation. There are step by step directions on how to meditate with instructions for different locations (I.E. the floor, a chair, lotus position.) Once you go through the steps a few times it becomes easier to go through them without having to read what to do each step of the way. The 7 steps were very helpful to me and I have been meditating every day. I feel more relaxed and let annoying things or drama at work just flow over me and not even pay attention to it.

live a zen life

Living a well rounded zen lifestyle is impossible if your mind is not open to all of the possibilities of life. I have never been a zen person, but when my personal life was suffering and I was feeling depressed, I knew I had to do something about it. Reading Gary's book gave me the confidence to take control of my feelings and embrace life instead of trying to control everything. I am not fully Zen yet but I feel very excited to get there.

PEOPLE SAY THAT I have self-confidence. Who knows?

When I began speaking out, I was a realist.

I knew the relentless and incompetent naysayers of the status quo would anxiously line up against me, and they have:

The politicians who talk a great game in campaigns—and play like total losers when they try to actually govern because they can’t govern; they don’t know how to govern.

The lobbyists and special interests with their hands in our pockets on behalf of their clients or others.

The members of the media who are so far lost when it comes to being fair that they have no concept of the difference between “fact” and “opinion.”

The illegal immigrants who have taken jobs that should go to people here legally, while over 20 percent of Americans are currently unemployed or underemployed. Believe me, they’re all over the place. I see them. I talk to them. I hug them. I hold them. They are all over the place.

Congress, which has been deadlocked for years and virtually unable to deal with any of our most pressing domestic problems, or even the most basic ones, such as passing a �budget. Think of it: a little thing like passing the budget. They don’t even have a clue.

Meanwhile, the bedrock of this country—the middle class—and those 45 million Americans stuck in poverty have seen their incomes decline over the past 20 years. Understandably, their disenchantment and frustration at what’s happening grows every day, and it gets worse and worse and worse.

And even our lawyers and judges, the reflective “wise men,” have been stepping all over the US Constitution, the bulwark of our democracy. They have recklessly appointed themselves to be policy makers, because our actual elected officials are paralyzed by partisanship. They can’t move; they can’t act. They are totally impotent.

As for the presidency and the executive branch, the incompetence is beyond belief.

As I write this, Russian president Vladimir Putin is totally outmaneuvering our president by putting together a coalition in Syria that will make Putin the only effective leader in the world. He and his allies—most notably Iran—have positioned themselves exactly where President Obama and our military have failed miserably for years. They are total failures. They are not leaders. We are no longer a leader. Putin has become the leader, and it’s an embarassment to our country.

We’ve wasted literally trillions of dollars in the Middle East, with virtually nothing to show for it except for alienating our best ally, Israel. To make matters worse, we’ve negotiated a worthless and costly nuclear treaty with Iran (now Russia’s best friend) on the supposition that it will lead to greater harmony and world peace, which it won’t. It will lead to just the opposite.

The idea of American Greatness, of our country as the leader of the free and unfree world, has vanished.

Despite all of these challenges—and actually because of the challenges—I decided to do something about it. I couldn’t stand to see what was happening to our great country. This mess calls for leadership in the worst way. It needs someone with common sense and business acumen, someone who can truly lead America back to what has made us great in the past.

We need someone with a proven track record in business who understands greatness, someone who can rally us to the standard of excellence we once epitomized and explain what needs to be done.

When I started speaking out, I had no idea what the reaction would be. I know I’m a great builder, I’ve built buildings all over the world. I’ve had tremendous success. But I hadn’t fully exposed my political thoughts and ideas to restore America’s greatness.

I also knew that the Trump brand is one of the world’s great icons of quality and excellence. Everybody talks about it. Everybody knows about it. It’s very very special. I’m very proud of it. Our buildings and resorts now stand very proudly (and beautifully) all over the United States and in many other countries.

I started with the issue of illegal immigration, and proposed building a major wall that would be very high and completely impervious to the flood of immigrants who we don’t want or need here illegally. We love people coming in, but not when it’s done illegally.

Suddenly, Americans started to wake up to what was going on with regard to illegal immigration. Despite the large number of candidates who were running for the Republican nomination, what I was saying started to really hit home with people, and �everybody picked it up and they picked it up gladly.

I started drawing crowds so large that we had to move our rallies into football stadiums and convention centers. The first national debate drew 24�million viewers, which set a record for cable television. Despite some of the ridiculous, antagonistic questions—or maybe because of them—I fought back as I always do and began to explain my vision. As a result, most people thought I won the debate.

People were applauding. All of a sudden, people who had never cared about elections or never voted were rushing to our rallies. The rallies became massive. The crowds were unbelievable. The enthusiasm was based on pure love and love of what we were doing.

The media, the politicians, and the so-called leaders of our country reacted in horror. But I persevered and went directly to the people, because I don’t need anyone’s financial support, nor do I need anyone’s approval of what I say or do. I just had to do the right thing. I had to do it. I had no choice. I see what’s happening to our country; it’s going to hell. I had to do it.

I have now begun to fill in some of the details of my vision. I’ve released a tax plan that gives the middle class and those with lower incomes a chance to keep more of what they earn, while restructuring how the richest Americans will be paying taxes.

I’ve committed to a truly more powerful military, one prepared and equipped to stand up to any and all of our foes. When we draw a line in the sand, it needs to mean something to all—�especially our enemies.

I’ve introduced a whole new approach to job creation by encouraging companies to bring more of their jobs and manufacturing back to America (home where it belongs), along with the trillions of dollars currently being held in foreign banks overseas. We’re bringing that money back. It’s a massive amount of money. And guess what? Lots of good things are going to happen. They’re going to spend that money on roads, on bridges, on companies, on jobs. It’s going to be amazing.

I’ve explained why Obamacare is a costly, ludicrous solution to our health care woes and one which must be repealed and replaced with a much better option. We need to fix the problem by creating competition in the private sector between insurance companies, and by allowing patients to choose the family doctors they want. This will be a much better plan, a much less costly plan—better doctors, better service. It will be something really special. And think of it: the United States will save a fortune as a country. People will be better served. A combination that cannot be beat.

Competition is a magic word in education as well. Parents should have the right to choose the schools where their kids can get the best education. The weaker schools will be closed, and ineffective teachers will be fired. One-size-fits-all �education—Common Core—is bad. It’s not going to happen. We don’t want our children to be educated from Washington. We want local education. Education should be �locally based.

Domestically, we need to undertake a massive rebuilding of our infrastructure. Too many bridges have become dangerous, our roads are decaying and full of potholes, while traffic jams are costing millions in lost income for drivers who have jobs in congested cities. Public transit is overcrowded and unreliable and our airports must be rebuilt. You go to countries like China and many others and you look at their train systems and their public transport. It’s so much better. We’re like a third-world country.

I could go on and on regarding many of the ideas I’ve written about in this book, and more that will be forthcoming. But let me add that while my critics are pushing their policy agendas, the last thing we need are more plans that evaporate after the elections.

What we need is leadership that can deal with our mess and begin to apply practical solutions to our problems. My goal is not to design hundreds of pages of government regulation and red tape like others propose. We need to outline �commonsense policies and then knock some heads together if necessary to make them work. The fact is we are over-regulated. People can’t move. They’re stymied. Companies can’t be built. We’re over-regulated.

I know how to deal with complex issues and how to bring together all the various elements necessary for success. I’ve done it for years and have built a great company and a massive net worth.

This book is designed to give the reader a better understanding of me and my ideas for our future. I’m a really nice guy, believe me, I pride myself on being a nice guy but I’m also passionate and determined to make our country great again.

It’s time we turn America around from despair and anger to joy and accomplishment. It can happen, and it will happen.

Our best days still lie ahead. There is so much untapped greatness in our country. We’re rich in natural resources, and we’re rich in human talent.
