Meh.

I rented the book from Amazon for the online semester, so there was no access code to WileyPlus and I had to purchase it separately. Frankly I didn't even need the textbook, WileyPlus has the whole book online. I've barely touched the book since Chapter 3.

This textbook is, well, a textbook. It's dull, dry and challenging to absorb many of the lessons. I find most of the examples confusing and unclear, so I just do a Google search for the principle being taught, then go back to WileyPlus to do a review, work practice problems and do my homework. I was struggling in class at first, but now that I've adopted this method I'm doing much better! Next semester, I will be using the same book for Accounting Principles II, but I will not extend the rental.

This book changed my life.

Wow, what a phenomenal book. I like to read this before I go to sleep at night. It calms me down and I will read about different cost allocations as though I'm counting sheep. It's so soothing to see numbers all over the page. I don't know what I would do without this book. I would recommend everyone to buy a second copy to place under a firm pillow. I hear that some people can absorb material directly through this process. I never knew I lacked so much knowledge in cost accounting. I would have tried to apply my indirect overhead costs to the wrong activities had I not read this book.

NOW UPDATED; Fascinating book, but this copy needs to be reviewed

I was pleased that the publisher took my earlier review as it was intended - constructive criticism - and quickly set about editing the text. This edited copy was afterwards provided for my honest review.
This is a valuable collection. I believe it would be a fairly big book if it had been printed on paper. I have had time to get through about 12% (907 pages) of this copy (according to my Kindle Fire) and I am very pleased with the changes made. First, let me say that the content of this book is faith building and soul & spirit stirring. It should be read by every believer. Men such as John G. Lake were greatly used by God to restore and reveal truths about God working with men to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, with demonstrations of His own power which would fit seamlessly into the works we see in the Book of Acts.
As for the quality of this ebook, the problem of missing portions of text seemed to have largely been corrected but I still found some typographical errors here and there (e.g. "I as" instead of "I was"; "It college professor" instead of "a college professor" and similarly in other places; "ought not to not be" instead of "ought not (to) be"; some missing punctuation; sentences beginning with common letters; spaces between compound words, and so on). However, it's vastly improved from the time of my first review so that I am now able to read without getting irritated or being confused. I did start highlighting the typos whenever they were found, and wished there was an easy way to bring these remaining ones to the publisher's attention, but realized that page numbers would vary according to device and text size.
Nevertheless, I decided to give this a 4.5 rating (and chose to click the 5-stars as if rounding up) because of the sheer faith building, spiritual value of the content and also because the price at the time of writing this is great value for money. It is a sizeable collection. The readability is good now that the text has been through some more editing, and the Table of Contents provides active links which makes it easy to read portions of the book in any desired order.
What would have made this a truly 5-star ebook: Perfectly edited text.

I purchased this and had to return for refund. I started to read it and was so fascinated that I initially tried to overlook the typographical errors, missing letters and phrases etc, but it became too disappointing. I felt that I was probably missing something. And then the poor quality removed credibility because I felt I could never know what else was not copied correctly. I am currently searching for another book of John G. Lake's sermons.
I gave this 2 stars because John G. Lake is absolutely worth the read, but this particular publication definitely needs to be carefully edited.

This text is required for Advanced Pharmacology for the graduate program and is packed full of information. A great learning tool, but would not lug such an enormous book around with me. It is packed with much needed information and a tool to use daily. It is packed with text, charts, and tables as well. Everything that as APN's will need in our practice.

Francisco Laguna Correa creci� en el centro de la Ciudad de M�xico durante los ochentas. La Huelga General de la UNAM de 1999 hizo que interrumpiera sus estudios en la Prepa 3, pero en lugar de unirse a los huelguistas, se fue a vivir a Ciudad Hidalgo, Michoac�n, donde algunas veces trabaj� recogiendo le�a, vendiendo abarrotes en un tianguis y cargando pacas de avena. En Michoac�n, cobr� consciencia social de las dificultades vitales y econ�micas que viven los trabajadores del campo mexicano y los inmigrantes mexicanos en Estados Unidos. En 2001, entr� a estudiar a la Universidad Nacional Aut�noma de M�xico (UNAM), en CU, pero dej� la carrera de Lengua y Literaturas Hisp�nicas para redactar informes para Volkswagen por cuarenta pesos al d�a. La precariedad laboral y el desencanto por la UNAM lo obligaron a emigrar fuera del Distrito Federal y posteriormente fuera de M�xico. Tras varios a�os de ejercer oficios diversos en M�xico, Europa y Estados Unidos, termin� sus estudios de licenciatura en la Portland State University. En Portland, Oreg�n, trabaj� en el distrito escolar como maestro de ingl�s como segunda lengua (ESL) con ni�os migrantes de k�nder y primaria. Despu�s estudi� tres maestr�as y en 2016 recibi� el t�tulo de doctor (Ph.D.) por parte de la University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. There are a lot of books on how to compose pleasing images. A lot. And I've read a lot of them. But if you want to cut to the chase and learn how to compose images that are brimming with visual energy, then I highly recommend reading "See It: Photographic Composition Using Visual Intensity" by Ellen and Josh Anon. The authors not only break down elements that add visual energy to photographs, but they also explain "why" each element adds to the energy or intensity. And when you understand the "why's" of visual intensity, then you can quickly get to the heart of the scene or subject when you're shooting.

The first part of the book offers in-depth information on visual and compositional elements including light, lines, shapes, textures, color, framing, and storytelling. Next, the authors evaluate a series of images in the Putting It All Together chapter. Then they walk readers through the process of creating images with visual intensity both in the field during shooting and during image editing. In addition, the book is generously and beautifully illustrated. By the time you finish the book, you'll have a good understanding of what it takes to make strong images with maximum visual impact.

If you're serious about moving your photography to the next level, then this book should be at the top of your list.

A New Approach

All of technique, e.g., shutter speed, focusing, and aperture, has only one purpose: the composition. The composition is ultimately how the photographer conveys his vision to the viewer. In this book Josh and Ellen Anon suggest a new approach to composition, visual intensity. Roughly speaking, visual intensity refers to the amount of energy in a photograph, but even that definition is only a very rough description.

After defining visual intensity, the book reviews the usual compositional elements like perception; lines, shapes and textures; color; framing; light; and visual story telling, pointing out how each contributes to visual intensity. At the same time the authors review traditional rules of composition, like the rule of thirds and horizon placement. The authors then show a portfolio of works by different renowned photographers, explaining how the concept of visual intensity contributes to each image. The next chapter shows how the previously explored concepts apply to capturing images in the field. The authors demonstrate how the rules of visual intensity apply to digital processing, and then mention a few other creative techniques like high dynamic range photography.

This is my first contact with the concept of visual intensity and I found it quite useful as an approach to composition different from traditional rules. Most photographers, regardless of skill level, will benefit from studying this approach, although it would be useful to have some experience as a photographer to best apply the approach. For example, in post processing, the explanation of how to use Lightroom, Aperture, Photoshop and plug-ins like NIK Color Effects Pro to control visual intensity will only be understood by those familiar with post-processing software, even though the authors writing style is quite clear. Similarly, one should have a good understanding of exposure and focus.

I did have one objection. Sidebars are printed on a light-blue background, with grey sans-serif print that is extremely difficult to read. I think it's time for the publisher to evaluate its use of fonts in its instructional manuals. Nevertheless, the book is good enough and important enough that this one fault shouldn't stop photographers from reading it.

I consider this one of the most important books on photography techniques printed this year, and recommend it highly.

This is an incredibly detailed well written book on the important aspect of photography. I would add this to the great classic on composition, Richard Zakia's Perception and Photography, which I use to recommend to my photography students.
Ellen has a unique background that makes her well prepared to write this book. She is a psychologist who took up photography latter in life. Her psychological training and background enabled her to study, examine, and explain what elements make up a compelling strong photographic image.
After learning the techniques and science of photography this should be the book that will take your images to the next level from technically proficient to having great impact and composition.
Having taught photography for over 20 yrs, I would have to say this book is a must read for people wanting to improve there images.
