THE WITCHES BREW !

What reader wouldn't like to visit the past? (with a return ticket of course) With this book, you are made aware of Past - raw isolation, candle light , no plumbing, open-fire cooking - the only communication by word of mouth or a rare letter. And on top of this, fear and dread ! And the undead seen abroad !
I became immersed in the life of 'The House' and of it's characters. Although the Prologue prepares you for fear, dread, revenge, Satanic superstitions - you only THINK you're prepared ! A beautifully written, dangerous, period story, (certainly comparable to Du Maurier's Jamaica Inn.) And all the more remarkable in that the story is based on actual events, and the author's research shines through, in the telling of this spine-chilling story ! Martina Devlin, Journalist and Author, leads us, gently but firmly into Fright-land !!

Surprisingly unputdownable for a story about witches

This is a gem. Not a book I would have ordinarily chosen but was amazed by how unputdownable it was. Martina Devlin just keeps getting better and better as a writer. This to me works as a part thriller, part timeless human story . I end up admiring the main character so much and empathising that I forget partly the witches part and that it's set hundreds of years ago. It's a story about life, hard challenges, the decency of human beings and the opposite. It's timeless. it s just a wonderful story and that's what life is about - this is one of them . Enjoy. Aileen

Very enjoyable

Really enjoyed this book, the story is engaging, all the more so as it's based on a true events. Mob mentality is well portrayed and the reader is carried along with events, all the while worried about what's going to happen next. Would definitely recommend this book to others.
